About San Carlos Cemetery, Monterey

This cemetery was established in 1834 as San Carlos Borromeo de Carmelo and encompassed both the current cemetery and what is now the Eastern portion of Monterey City Cemetery (Cementerio El Encinal) 798 Fremont Street which was deeded to the City of Monterey in 1936. Persons dying between 1834 and the present-day are now buried in this cemetery although several burials were not recorded.
